Music Monday: Unplanned by Matthew West

Words are so powerful. A simple rephrasing can change the way we perceive a situation. Blessing to a curse, curse to a blessing.

A friend of mine calls his much younger third child his Victory Lap.

When we missed our train and had to stay in the city we had been visiting, we got a Bonus Day.

Unplanned challenge? Unexpected opportunity.

Unplanned pregnancy? Miracle to discover.

Each approach yields very different results. May we all be able to see that God has something in store for us, no matter what life hands us. It isn’t always easy, and sometimes it is the hardest times that show us the beauty and strength of God’s love the most clearly.

Now, I know that this is a hard message to hear. Most of us hate to suffer. Very few of us like our plans to be disrupted and taken over when we aren’t ready.

Even so, I want to give you this hope. Whether you are dealing with an unplanned pregnancy, an unplanned setback, or an unplanned life event, may this song help you to remember that you can change it by how you name it. Same situation, much different effect. One brings darkness and despair, the other brings light and life. We canchoose.

“We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
