Reflections

Finding God in our lives
is quite simple.
We just have to take
the time to look.

We all need people in our lives who cheer us on like this!

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up - 1 Thessalonians 5:11 We all need people who will cheer us on like this when we just can’t seem to do what we want. Go and be that person for someone today. Happy Friday! Happy Friday!

Do you have any idea what you are worth?

I have the honor of being a part of a wonderful faith journey with my friend Chris. The things she discovers as she wrestles with God are beautiful and immediately shared with those of us who need them. Enjoy this guest post today, as she shares her discovery of the meaning of the cross. I was starting to panic as I sat in church on April 28th. I was running out of time. I had been leading a small group of five girls through our church’s confirmation program this year and we had two more weeks until the big day but no more meetings scheduled. In two weeks they would walk out of the church in their fancy clothes and I couldn’t be sure when, if ever, they would be back… Dear God, How can I

Music Monday: Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne

Sometimes we are so busy in the struggle that we forget to ask for help. We are like Peter who starts to sink when he looks at the size of the waves he is already walking on. Look up. Your help is at hand.

What if you gave it all?

Jesus doesn’t want part of our lives. He doesn’t want merely an hour on Sunday. He wants our days, our nights, our ups, our downs, our struggles, and our triumphs. If we let Jesus in, our whole life will be transformed. You may be asked to go places that will be difficult. Have courage. You may be asked to go places you have never been. Have courage. You may be asked to speak truth in places where it is not welcome. Have courage. You may be asked to bring peace where there is none. Have courage. If we give our lives to Jesus, he will lead us, perhaps to places we never thought we would go. He will be with us in all of them. As St. Julian of Norwich said, “All shall be well, all manner of thi

Music Monday: Fearless by Jasmine Murray

As I stepped out of church, all around me was an eerily calm, green sky. Having spent my early childhood in the Midwest, I know green skies mean trouble. Twenty minutes from home in the hills of Austin was not where I wanted to be. Minutes later I was driving through torrential rain, with the wind slamming into my car, thunder roaring constantly, and wondering how many creeks crossed the road between my home and me. The radio was filled with emergency alerts, and then this song came on the radio. Even in the hardest storms, we have reason to sing.

Music Monday: Not Today by Hillsong United

We can be overrun, overtired, overwhelmed, and overstimulated. We can be doubtful, weak, and fearful. And we can forget to turn to the source of our strength and the cause of our hope. Reset. Remember. Tell the devil, “Not today!” and rest – no, leap into the open arms of Jesus.

Fun Friday!

For anyone who has been told they’re not good enough. For anyone who didn’t think they would ever measure up. Listen to this story. It will make you laugh and give you hope. Happy Friday! http://themoth.org/stories/stars-rockets-and-moons

Pentecost and Captain Marvel

*****Spoiler alert**** Warning - if you haven’t seen the Captain Marvel movie, there are small spoilers in this post. As soon as I saw the movie “Captain Marvel” I knew it would be my Pentecost post. Unfortunately, I’ve had to wait a while to write it, but hopefully now I won’t be spoiling it for anyone. Throughout the movie, it is clear that Captain Marvel is quite powerful, but external forces lock her powers down many times. Some of the forces are mental, and some are physical. Once they are removed, her power is beyond what anyone could have imagined. She is filled with light and strength that cannot be overcome. What does this have to do with faith and Pentecost? Everything. What do we
