Counted

Did you vote in the mid-term elections last month? The last couple of years, it has been clear that every vote counts. It is important to make your voice heard.

But is one vote really that important in a field of millions?

I think at this point, we would all agree that it does. Those millions are made up of single votes. Individual people. Each one as important as the next.

You don't get two votes if you have more money. You don't get half a vote if you are from the wrong family. You don't get three votes if you have over a million followers. Everyone gets one vote. One.

And Joseph too went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

Mary and Joseph went with countless others to be counted in the census. Just two people in a sea of many. To the king, they were little more than a number, but to God and to us, they are much, much more.

Each of us has great value in the eyes of God. We are counted. In fact, every hair on our head is counted (Luke 12:7). We are counted because we are precious. We are counted because we are known. Not because of our financial worth, our power, or our popularity, but simply because we are His.

We matter. Each one of us. Each and every one.
